PEaCE (Protecting Environment and Children Everywhere), is the pioneer NGO, inaugurated in 1991, to eliminate child prostitution, child pornography and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes. PEaCE aims to nurture collaborations among local civil society activists and organisations to form a network for protection of children from sexual exploitation. It focuses on the most vulnerable geographical areas and conducts country wide awareness programmes, training, advocacy and community based programmes, legal aid and counselling for the victims and families. PEaCE is on the lookout for energetic personnel with excellent command of written and spoken English for immediate recruitment to the following posts.

Position Summary

The Project Officer – Field Operations will be part of a team responsible for the overall delivery of programmes planned, outputs, targets and activities. S/he will be responsible for the timely implementation of all the field programmes described in the work plans of PEaCE. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and external resource persons, agencies or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

The Project Officer – Field Operations will work closely with the Executive Director and other staff of PEaCE. S/he will coordinate with the relevant state and non-state agencies, and individuals for effective implementation of the activities at the district, divisional and village levels. The following are her/his responsibilities in detail:

  • Conducting awareness programmes on rights of children, sexual exploitation of children online (SECO) and sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism (SECTT) for stakeholders including high risk families and children, youth, CSOs, child protection groups, state and private sector employees and law enforcement authorities.
  • Establishing and strengthening family and community based safety nets to protect children at risk
  • Conducting programmes to sensitise personnel in travel and tourism and cyber service providers on SECO and SECTT
  • Linking families with children at risk with other Organizations providing psychological counselling
  • Conducting awareness programs and empowering District Children’s Council and Divisional Children’s Clubs to act as change makers in arresting SECO and SECTT within a child rights context.
  • Introducing Child Protection Policies for CSOs working for and with children
  • Engaging with civil society organisations as a pressure group to follow up on cases relating to child protection with law.
  • Undertake any other tasks entrusted by the Executive Director

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a similar degree in a relevant field. Commitment towards uplifting the rights of children is a must.
  • Working experience in a similar capacity for not less than two years is preferred.
  • Excellent, communication skills with a good command of written and spoken Sinhala and English.
  • Excellent command of Tamil Language (Sinhala proficiency will be an added qualification)
  • Impressive presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently using own initiative within the scope of responsibilities;
  • Proficiency in MS office applications.
  • Readiness to keep an eye on the latest trends in the fields falling under the focus of the organization such as the ICT and travel & tourism industry.
  • Ability to work easily with other cultures in difficult circumstances.

Programme Officer – Position Summary

Programme Officer will play a key role in assisting the organization with all the programme/project management tasks described in the work plans of PEaCE. S/he will directly report to the Executive Director and work closely with all other team members to ensure the integrity and the delivery of programmes as intended at the planning-level. Programme Officer will also support in writing reports, project/programme proposals etc., especially by maintaining clear and detailed information records.

 

Responsibilities of Programme Officer also include:

  • Working closely with relevant team members, especially Project Officers to organize and coordinate the programmes as per the organizational work plans.
  • Supporting the Information Unit of PEaCE to maintain detailed records of the programmes conducted by PEaCE.
  • Maintaining and updating programme databases on monthly basis.
  • Building maintaining productive official level relationships with responsible government and non-governmental authorities/stakeholders that are important for child protection.
  • Conducting awareness programmes on rights of children, sexual exploitation of children online (SECO) and sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism (SECTT) for stakeholders including high risk families and children, youth, CSOs, child protection groups, state and private sector employees and law enforcement authorities.

SECRETARY

Secretary- Position Summary

Secretary is the first point of contact for the organization and will provide administrative support across the organization. He/ She will report to the Manager-Finance and Admin and work very closely with the Executive Director and other staff.

 

Responsibilities of Secretary include:

  • Welcome visitors by greeting them, in person or over the phone
  • Respond to all telephone calls; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Attend to all correspondence and postal mail.
  • Attend Board meetings and maintain minutes.
  • Upload information to the Social Media as required by the Executive Director.
  • Distributing newsletter, leaflets and other information material electronically.
  • Maintain confidential records and files electronically as well as hard copies.
  • Maintaining staff attendance registers.
  • Provide general secretarial, administrative and clerical support.
  • Any other duties assigned by Executive Director and line manager.

 

 Qualifications & Experience

  • GCE (A/L), preferably a professional qualification in secretarial practices.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in similar position.
  • Solid communication skills both written and verbal in English (a good tri-lingual is preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, Social Media, etc.
  • Ability to work independently using his/her own initiative within the scope of responsibilities
  • Ability to organise, multitask, prioritise and work under pressure
  • Ability to work easily with other cultures in difficult circumstances
