PEaCE launched a historical book depicting its 25+ journey full of much dedicated and difficult efforts to protect children everywhere in Sri Lanka, at the Universal Children’s Day celebration on November 20, 2017 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The first copy of the book entitled ‘PEaCE at 25: Celebrations and Reflections’ was presented to Hon. Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, State Minister of City Planning and Water Supply by Mr. Mohammed Mahuruf, Chairman – PEaCE.
This book is not only a record of the activities and the evolution of the organization in its dedication to combat sexual exploitation of children and promote the Rights of the Child, but it also includes important insights into the situation in Sri Lanka with regard to the protection of children and also the legal aspects pertaining to eliminating child abuse and exploitation. The book brings a critical introspection and evaluation of the campaign of PEaCE to break through the barriers of silence, indifference and in some cases hostility to expose the wounds in our body politic – wounds suffered by Sri Lankan children through sexual violence, wounds caused by abuse, neglect, exploitation, pornography and trafficking for child labour and for sexual purposes.
PEaCE celebrated its 25th anniversary last year at the Universal Children’s Day celebration held at the BMICH with the presence of former President Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga as the Chief Guest and Hon. Minister Sarath Amunugama as the Special Guest.
