It was  a great pleasure for PEaCE to successfully conduct a special consultation meeting with lawyers of the Nugegoda branch of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on 26-07-2017. The meeting was held with the theme of Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE) at the Nugegoda Court premises. Over 40 lawyers who attended the meeting responded highly positively at the end. Two magistrates were also present. The programme was funded by terre des hommes.

Representing the organization, Sunil Gamage (member of the Board of Director) delivered a 01 hour lecture on some of the critical aspects of online child abuse, which was appreciated by all the participants. Various aspects of online child exploitation including new strategies followed by abusers, identity theft in online platforms and children’s vulnerability to online sexual crimes were mainly highlighted by him.

Renowned President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa as the key resource person elaborated on online crimes and related law with special focus on child sexual exploitation during his speech. Both the positive aspects as well as the insufficiencies of certain existing laws were critically analysed by him.

This was the first consultation meeting of a series of 12 sessions based on the same purpose.
